What Is The Best Niche For Internet Marketing?

This is a question that I’ve always encountered online, and even more so recently from students of the Niche Domination Secrets course…

What is the best niche for internet marketing?

There are literally thousands of niches that one could make money from online but is there one there something that makes a certain niche better than others?

Before you start marketing in any kind of niche market, there is one thing that you simply need to determine …

Do the people in that market spend money???

1) If nobody has money to spend, or is not willing to spend money, then it doesn’t matter how “good” the niche looks in terms of being able to break into it.

Above all, you need to make sure that a niche is (at least potentially) profitable before you begin working in it.

Does the market have competitors making a profit???

2) Secondly, you also need to make sure that the niche has competition (and again, that means competition who are making money).

Some people think that a lack of competition is a good sign, that it may mean the niche is completely “untapped” and that you can go in and completely dominate.

Unfortunately, the more likely scenario is that someone has already thought of that niche, tried it, made little or no money, and decided to forget it.

Competition is not a bad thing – it proves that there is a profitable market to tap into.

Does the market have an unsolved problem???

3) If you can solve a major problem of the people in the market, it means that you have a much better chance of having success.

People with problems, particularly serious problems, are often willing to pay for a solution. If you can provide that solution, it’s money in your pocket!

Think about what problems people are having. Find the biggest, most common problem and determine a way to solve that problem.

HINT: Forums and discussion boards are always a good place to “spy” on your potential market and see what they are talking about.

So what is the best niche to enter?

The truth is, there is no “one” best niche.

The internet has such a massive reach that there are thousands of “best” niches to tap into, and so long as you make sure to satisfy the three criteria above BEFORE you spend any time and money creating products, then you have a much better chance of success.

The internet is an incredibly powerful tool, and (though it may not seem like it) there are still very, very few people who know how to use it effectively to make money – particularly outside of the IM niche.

I firmly believe that it’s possible for every single person who ever reads this post to be able to go out and carve their own part of a profitable market.

What about you?

What markets do you want to get into, or what markets do you think would be profitable?

I’m not looking for you to tell me the exact products you would create or anything like that – this is not to “steal” ideas.

I just want to get people thinking about different markets, outside of the “sell internet marketing stuff to internet marketers” niche.

Leave a comment below and tell me what market you think would be a good market to get into or what market you would like to get into.

To YOUR Success,

Richard Legg

P.S. Eric and myself will be reviewing these ideas soon and we’ll pick out one person to join us for free on our next call to discuss it. So go ahead, submit your idea, it may be a winner!

Comments

  1. I’ll start …

As a new, first-time parent it seems like there are lots of things that I’m unsure of, or don’t know what’s best.

We’ve already bought a few “baby care” books so “New parents” would seem to be a good market to go into.

I’d have no hesitation in spending money on something if it would benefit little Adam in some way.

I imagine there are lots of other problems that need solving :-)

I also know there is competition making money which is a good sign.

If I took some time to find a unique problem, or a unique angle to a problem, then I think this would make a potentially profitable niche.

    Ok … YOUR turn :-)

    Richard

  2. Hi,

Do you have a certain process that you use to pick out niches?

I just don’t know where to look. Yeah, I can look at a forum and find like 2 or 3 people that might have a problem but that does not hardly seem like enough to be a market.

What do you suggest I do to find a niche that is profitable that is not internet marketing?

    Thanks

  3. I agree that for my child I will buy anything or do anything I can for her. I have a 3 year old girl and she is the princess of the world.

I was thinking that if I can mix internet marketing with a product or service that all parents need that I could make a killing. So far I have just been doing ebay and niche marketing for cars and playstation gamers and stuff for people that I know have disposable money to put into their hobby of games or cars..

Great site so so far.. please post more..

    Mike

  4. Oh Man. Richard.

You have discovered what all parents discover the day after they learn that they’re about to become parents…

    we don’t know JACK….

I hope you haven’t waited until NOW to get ready to slog THAT 18 year learning curve, buddy.

As for a NICHE…if you’ve discovered a way to make parenting PAINLESS, you got a winner…because there’s NO competition and INFINITE demand

    On the other hand

a niche that’s recently been pretty apparent is MANAGING MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS SUCCESSFULLY…

    I gotcher book right here…

  5. Hi !
I am at a loss where to start…I have a full carton of files from downloaded Ebooks on every subject related to IM, ebook publishing, blogging etc.
As a baby-boomer in my later 50’s this is getting overwhelming, to say the least.

    My favorite subects/topics/hobbies/interests, are:
    1) books and reading
    2) writing
    3) helping families w/ developmentally disabled children or family members learn how to look for a job, present their loved one to an employer, etc( this is what I do for a living)
    4) learning a foreign language
    5) politics/news
    6) pets/animal welfare
    7) photography

ANy advice would be most welcome.
I’ve tried programs like Automatic Wealth Maker, etc….and nothing has worked out so far. I think I’m better off with a few blogs and selling ads on that and buying Google ads for all the Clickbank products I’ve signed on with as an affiliate.

    Tks!

  6. Some “hobby” markets are a good niche because under the surface, they’re more than just a hobby. Model train collecting, for example, is a very popular hobby but also very lucrative because of the value of the trains. They’re like investments. A friend of mine’s collection was recently appraised at over $1M… and he started it with the trains he had as a kid. Of course, his collection grew over many years. But knowing what trains to buy and how to appraise them, even how to repair them, could be good niches. Collectors definitely spend money!

  7. Chika Nwoko says:

    Hi Richard,

I want to start by thanking you and Eric for putting on this program. Excellent stuff!!

Unfortunately I’m unable to attend the live webinars because of the Dreaded JOB, but I’m glad for the recordings.

Yes, New parenting is definitely a good niche. You won’t have any problems finding related products, that people not only want, but need.

I had looked at Foreclosure investing and with record foreclosures, this year alone, I feel that there is definitely a need for good meaningful information on the subject of Foreclosures. Taking it further, one could include the area of Bank Repossessions and Court House Auctions.

Any thoughts, comments or feedback will be appreciated.

I’m looking forward to the next session.

    Thanks

    Chika

  8. Well .. for me .. it’s SIMPLE. Here’s an example.

Ex. Main Niche .. “ANYTHING WOMEN WILL BUY”
Ex. Sub Niches: Clothes, Makeup, romance books, parent/kids stuff
Ex. Sub Sub Niches: Dresses, Lipstick, Harlequin novels, Stop Bedwetting Book
Ex. Sub Sub Sub Niches: Specific “Designer” dresses, Specific “Brand” Lipstick, etc. …

Since it’s well known that women willingly spend more than men ….

It seems to me that targeting a niche that women will spend money in
is a far better niche than something just for men.

However, it does seem, that men will purchase a “higher” priced
item sometimes more than women. I guess it’s all in the perceived value
    of the product.

    Anyway .. just an opinion

    No offense to the Ladies.

  9. First, I would like to thank you, Richard, for your forthright information; I have been so overwhelmed with all of the random information and outright misinformation (I’m being polite-I should really say lies) that I have accumulated over the few years while trying to develop a legitimate and helpful site on the internet. It has been an extremely discouraging experience, particularly for the non-technically inclined!

Secondly, I cannot believe what I am reading from these postings! I am an Alternative Practitioner (a PhD, RN, CHT). I worked in the clinical healthcare arena for over 15 years and then spent years researching and developing all-natural and naturally based products for babies and adults. I have developed custom/individualized care plans for patients/clients, depending on his/her needs, as well as general products and programs for clients (ie- all natural baby products, baby info, diet plans, diet hypnotherapy cds, stress management cds, grief cds, etc). I use ONLY the BEST ingredients… I am a Mother and would only use what I would have my 6 children have on their precious bodies!

My problem is, I have been at the internet thing (or have been taken, I’m embarrassed to admit) for so long that I have diminished my funds to the point that I am literally about to have to abandon this internet venture; I am literally down to my last dollars for this. I KNOW that I can help many… and I know for SURE that babies and children will start their lives off better without the contamination of the commercial items. Every single person that I have given or sold my products to have ordered more but I cannot manage to get my site up. I cannot seem to manage the technical thing. I am a scientist, not a computer person. I am extremely embarrassed to admit that I got through a bachelor’s degree, nursing school, hypnotherapy certifications and a doctorate without the computer training that I needed for this and forget the internet marketing, SEO or adwords, etc!

Richard, babies (and child rearing) ARE a great niche…

on a different note as far as a niche… that has nothing to do with me (except that I can serve this group, too)… catering to ANY thing that women of the ages of 50-60 will buy is another one in my opinion…
this is probably one of the, if not THE, largest purchasing groups in the economy today (i vote for weight loss).

    Again, thanks so much….

  10. Viv Deighjton says:

    Hi Richard

I have written this post in response to your mention of new parents and baby care as a possible niche. I have taken an excerpt from an article I wrote on the subject in DailyScrewUps…..

Certainly, parenting as a whole is an area that just about everyone who becomes a parent at sometime or another finds daunting. Not always are we willing to take advice from our well meaning parents, friends and family. We trail blaze our way into parenthood without much instruction, no ‘how to manual’ or – importantly – ‘experience’. We somehow believe that ‘it all comes naturally’. I mean, we ask people to get licenses to drive cars, but to become a parent all we need is a willing partner, a supremely enjoyable effort and bingo!!

I think truth be known parents, particularly the newbies spend a lot time in ‘silent conscious (and subconscious) panic’. There are so many issues, decisions, actions etc that need to be taken, and most of them need to be instantaneous. Mother Nature uses parenting to express her sense of humor by ensuring that each child we have appears to be from an entirely different planet, thereby ensuring a constant flow of new and interesting situations and problems.

A book on parenting covering age bracket ‘0 to forever’ ..would have been an enormous help to us all, this is a job that we never retire from by the way.

On top of that parenting also includes ‘relationship management’ – one case in point I refer to is the grandparents. These are the guys that get along with our kids so well because of the mutually shared ‘common enemy’..’us’. Not properly managed, this area can be a minefield of terror, tears, hurt indignation and if bad enough your disinheritance.

The big thing about this type of niche is millions of new recruits are joining the parenting club daily, so one is never going to run out of willingly desperate prospects.

So Richard, on that note, I am sure that Adam will take you and your wife on an exciting and wondrous journey and experience into and through parenting, although you will not be able to avoid bearing a few of the battle scars that come with it … my advice is enjoy it…it is every bit worth the effort.

    A warm parental hug

  11. Hey Richard:

Everyone is concerned with their health nowadays so any niche that has anything to do health especially High Quality Natural Health products. Ever
notice how many people flock to these sites Online and in the Mall stores.
This is a huge and I mean huge market.

  12. WOW!

Some *really* great responses so far.

It’s nice to see you all putting so much thought into these comments.

    Keep them coming guys!

    Richard

  13. Wow, after reading the title of the blog post and seeing the comments that have been made so far, I note that the answers already lie within. The best niche for internet marketing are the niches that have already been proven to be most profitable.

So which niches are those? The niches which have magazines published in them! No publisher is going to shell out the kind of money it takes to publish a magazine year after year unless it is profitable.

As many of you commenting on this post have discovered… parenting is a very profitable niche. There is a major magazine for that particular niche… “Parenting Magazine”! Within that particular niche, there are hundreds of sun niches such as parents with kid with ADD, ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, behavioral problems, teens, childhood illnesses, bullying, preeteen, toddlers, math, science, studying, test taking, diabetes and pregnancy, and the list goes on.

There are even expired domain names within that niche which are getting traffic and waiting for someone to come along and claim them such as “parentsofchildrenwithautism.com, parentsofpreemies.com, parentsofmyspacekids.com, parentsofteenpregnancies.com, parentswithoutpartner.com, parentsagainstbullying.com, parentsandteenagerrebellion.com, and at least 50 more that I know of when I last checked my expired domain names.

Did you know there are at least 5 magazines published and dedicated to toy and model trains? that alone proves that these are people who are rabid buyers within this hobby and are spending big money on everything within the toy and model train hobby.

Personally, I like evergreen niches… the ones that people are going to buy during any economic condition. these are niches which generation after generation will spend big money in month after month, year after year.

So the best niche for internet marketing is a niche which is already proven and making money in the offline sector. The next time you are at a garage or yard sale, you may be walking past a fortune in that box of old magazines that can be had for a buck. Grab those old magazines, open them, and start making some good money in proven, profitable niches.

Heck, after reading and using old magazines to make your niche fortune, you can even rip out the pages and sell them to another niche market of rabid buyers that pay up to hundreds of dollars per torn out page. However, I’m going to leave that special niche for another comment or post.

For now, you have enough ideas to get started in making good money in niche marketing. Good fortune to all!

  14. Hey Richard, Glad to hear you and your family are doing good, but this
niche thing has me stuck on a blank page. I have listened to all the Gurus
and went with what I am passionate about but Carpentry is flooded and
there is little market for ebooks. It is mainly a service industry. Bowling
is really hard to teach with an ebook , and my main hobby is sports cards
and memorabilia which at the present time is a buyers market and I don’t care to give my product away. No worries though, I will find the right niche
for me and then it’s ‘To The Top” Keep up the Great work Richard and give the wife a “High Five” from me, She did a wonderful job creating such a lovely Baby! Oh yeah, I guess you did have a little to do with it! God Bless
    Tim “The Leprechaun”

  15. Wow! Some well thought out and written comments here!
I think that the parenting niche is a great one to get into, just look at the success of dooce.com with $40K a month for ads there and banking also,
    15M for bankaholic.com, a WP blog.

alltop.com has lists of top blogs by categories for us to check out and learn from.

I’m trying the pet niche with my first list building attempt. Whatever we choose I think that’s it’s imperative to stick with a certain project until it’s successful enough to have reached our goal rather than jumping from thing to thing as I have been guilty of til recently.

  16. All the best in parenting. It is a learn as you go profession.
I am still looking for that perfect niche. With the economy the way it is, it will be a bit harder to find. Whatever it is, it will have to be something that I enjoy. If it makes money it will be a bonus.
    norm.

  17. Hi Richard,

It’s obvious – without our computer there is no internet marketing. I know that many people have only one computer and when it goes belly-up (and it will) they have no access to the internet or their internet business until the computer is fixed.

Even worse, when fixed, their data may be lost due to a massive hard drive failure.

A friend of mine creates websites for clients, and lost most of his website work when his hard drive failed. He said in amazement “but it is only six months old!” Some data was recovered, he was lucky. Of course, he had not backed up his data at all, lesson learned the hard way.

So a very important niche market is information on how to prevent losses like this. It’s simple, you just need at least two computers, and it is not difficult to network them together. A step-by-step information course on how to do this is desperately needed.

My son works in the data security industry and he says it is amazing how many people lose all their important data because they do not back it up in any way. This is suicide, yet is so simple to prevent if you have the right information.

Heck, I’ve been thinking of creating just such a course, but I am too busy learning how to make money! And of course I have two computers, and a data-backup server. Hey, they are just relatively old ordinary computers you can pick up for a song anywhere, it doesn’t cost much to do this.

Another great niche market, due to the proliferation of digital cameras, is information on how to use them properly. And of course, as the images are digital data, they must be backed up as per above, or you can lose years worth of precious photographs in the blink of an eye.

My JOB (which I hope to leave soon) is in the school photo business, and my boss lost twelve weeks worth of scanning when his data computer crashed some years ago. The film had to be scanned again and he nearly lost his business because he was weeks late delivering the photos. If you are a parent you will know how you hate to wait for the photos.

Sorry to sound scary but this stuff is fact. If you can create information on these subjects it will help a hell of a lot of people out there. So get to it, if you know how to do this stuff, do the community a favour and create a course that any non-techie can implement.

    Hope that helps,

    Jeffrey C Cox

  18. Hi Richard,

I believe there are several underutilised niche areas for consideration. Particularly pertinent in this case is towardss the new parent just like you. I believe that the big box stores missed the boat on this a few years ago. I am sure you remember Mothercare in the U.K which had that sown up but failed to capitalise on it. So a great niche to tarhet for growth (no pun intended)

The other niche i consider ready for plunder is the dating niche. I know there are lots of players out there doing that particular niche but lets face it trying to make time for a date these days is time consuming and date sites are booming.

As a parent myself i would have appreciated the help all those years ago.

  19. Hello!
I was researching a few niches for next Thursday and I am still not sure how to choose one niche. I have been at Barnes&Nobles to look at magazines and I noticed that pretty much all the magazines are centered around major topics that we all know about.
There are magazines about pets, dogs, music, fashion, wedding, home remodeling, cars, sports, hobbies, photography, etc… When we choose one of these niches, do we start with a major niche? And then try to find a subniche? One of my question about creating niche products is this: There are hundreds and thousands of books on Amazon.com and also a huge amount of free information on the internet. How can we create a product that tells people something new, different, unique, that they will not find in those other places, and also for which they are willing to pay?
My second question is about creating these products. How can we create a really valuable product if we do not know much about it? Yes, we can do a research, but we will never be able to achieve the level of experience of someone who spent years in that niche.
I noticed that many people who created Clickbank products, describe how they were personally involved for years in that niche… Like one guy who wrote an ebook about “the truth about six pack abs”, he states that he is a well known body-building trainer and nutritionist. Of course, we can outsource our product on Elance.com or Guru.com, but I wonder if we can find someone who can produce such a high quality product.
I am inclined to choose a few niches that affect me right now, at my age of 35. So, some of the niches I would like to go into are: wedding, hair loss, dating, relationships, six pack abs, piano, guitar, dog health(Beagles), baby care, snoring, stress relief.
My last questions are about the products that we create. Are we going to create just an ebook? Should we create a product that includes audio and video? Should we sell our product as digital downloads only? Can we somehow associate our electronic product with a physical product? I am kind of bored of these ebooks:-(

    Regards
    Petru

  20. Hi!
I forgot to ask one more question:-)
Is it better to find a niche, create a blog or a miniwebsite, and start selling some affiliate products in that niche, build a list, and after a while, create our own product to promote it to our list?
Or, should we start with our own product first?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Petru

  21. Hello Richard. Your phrase “there is no one best niche” is the one I am learning today. Why? I always thought there is great niche above all and that can be very difficult to discover. Or to have the good luck to discover it in your particular case. This makes us come to the field of speculation.
    Regards,
    Jesus

  23. Every niches are marketable in this internet online. But how to find the right niche as what you said check on the forums and other sources. Hot niches are alway too competitive and too much time wasted on planning. So how to locate a not so competitiive niches. I would like to seek for an answer on this.

  24. Colleen Bramall says:

    Hello Richard (and family),

I’m happy to hear your new family is doing so good an keeping you busy –
I’m sure your parents will be thrilled to see the new baby, so don’t worry
too much about the house – they’ll be so happy to see you’re new family that they really won’t take in too many details about the house, anyways!

Ok – so here goes about the niche idea…

First of all, I don’t really know a lot about how to research a particular niche idea. I’ve pretty much come up against a brick wall in what I’ve been trying to do, so apparently I don’t know WHAT resources to start with for my research. i.e. – How many searches this month for keyword A, then keyword AB, AC, etc.

I guess I can divulge my “idea” – it’s not than anyone is going to jump on
it or steal it (I don’t think so, anyways).

About 5 years ago I was in a motor vehicle accident and ended up going through a personal injury lawsuit. At the time, I know I went on the internet to do some searching about that. The ONLY thing I could ever find, and still to this day, is from Lawyers and large legal firms, mostly ads for them, and some forums, etc. telling you that you have to get a lawyer.
I never came across anything that tells you what REALLY happens, or what to expect. I believe that people going through a serious personal injury claim or lawsuit are totally blindsided by what actually does take place, and most people would be shocked to find out the truth.

I want to write a book detailing my experiences when I went through this ordeal. People should go into something like this with their eyes wide open, not being “slapped in the face” at every turn with something new that is thrown at them.

Lawyers are just very “matter-the-fact”. They say – “oh, we will go through “discovery”, then they banter back and forth for a couple of years, then perhaps start making settlement offers, etc. Then we might end up in a trial, or perhaps just go to mediation. Make sure you go to all of your Doctor’s appointments.”

If it was only that simple it would be a walk-in the-park. There is FARRRR
more to it than that and it get’s very, very personal.

Okay, now – in the US and Canada (I’m from that latter) there are literally MILLIONS of personal injury lawsuits filed every year, so I would think that would dictate that there is “some” market for this info.

Now, there it is, and that is as far as I have gotten, other than I do have a
“book” about half written. But as far as market research, etc. I’m pretty “stuck”. I guess what I need to know is not so much about actually “finding a niche idea” as – ” ok, now I’ve GOT the ball – where do I RUN with it, and what PATH do I take?”

I very much enjoyed last week’s session and I really look forward to Thursday night again. Have a good week – to all!
    Regards,
    Colleen Bramall

    Anyway

  25. It seems sport fishing is an under-served niche. There are millions of us fanatics who spend $100`s each year on tackle. e-books, even boats would be a good niche!

  26. Hi Richard,

The niches that I think have really great potential are Health related problem areas. To solve health problems people are ready to spend money also. And Info products are also available which can be promoted.

Another good niche can be online dating. :-)

  27. Hello Richard,

First let me explain that I am not in the first blush of youth and I have worked all my life as a commercial and property lawyer based in the UK. The internet marketing arena is completely new to me.

My main interests are cycling, hill-walking, weight-training and I have recently started trying to play golf.I am also a fanatical Manchester United fan. It would therefore be true to say that any niche targeted at health and fitness would certainly attract me but in the main, “health and fitness” is far too generic and the esablished competition would prabably be too difficult to break into.

On a global view and with the asistance of increasing numbers of responsible Governments,it is true to say that the health, ecology and green promoters, whether we immediately agree with them or not, do tend to seep into our consciences causing us at least to give it a fleeting thought. The most recent example of this in the UK was the health campaign which led the Government to impose a complete ban on smoking in public places. I am now getting to my main point.

I heard on BBC radio the other day that since the smoking ban came into effect(1st July 2007) the smoking population in the UK has dropped by 25%, down from 12 to 9 million. This is a dramatic reduction when you consider that the UK’s total population is a little short of 70 million. What would the comparable figures be in th US?

It is clear that almost 5% of the UK’s population have given up smoking in a remarkable short period of time and we may wonder how this was achieved. I do not know the complete answer to this but we do know that there are 9 million individuals many of whom are probably desperate to quit smoking. Again, any campaign directed at this numerical target would be too generic but we could dig down and direct a campaign addressed to say “PARENTS- DO YOU HAVE CHILDREN WHO SMOKE? NEED HELP IN PERSUADING THEM TO QUIT? WE CAN PROVIDE THAT HELP.”

The spin-off may be to attract parents who smoke, teenagers themselves who want to quit and the general smoker who is also looking to quit. Is this approach workable?

I am writing this as a complete newbie and you will have to forgive me if I am talking a load of nonsense.

    Regards

    Brian Sharman

  28. Thanks for the great post,

I have several ‘niches’ meaning I have several – Theme Specific – ‘Blogspots’. Basically I have specific blogspots where I can write about things that I like to write about.

    ‘one of them is for
    example, about ‘WRITING’

So although I do have some products related to IM, a lot of products are outside of the IM Niche. For example on my ‘Writing-Niche’ you can find very interesting products that can be very helpful for beginning writers.
There you can find – amung other things – ‘Must have’ books like:

‘Writers Market’ & ‘The Well-Fed Writer’

and a guide about ‘Getting Published in Magazines’, something that
can be interesting for IM’s that want to promote their business as well !!!
But why are you still reading….? Don’t walk…, RUN and have a look

Hi Richard. how are babyAdam and mum doing? By now parenting is becoming second nature to you two.

Well, I suggest an endowment be made to some of these Top Security Organisations that will under take a serious study aimed at finding a lasting solution to Internet Scams and profer urgent ‘antidotes’ that will sanitize the Internet environment.

I think this will make a very good niche since nearly every one on the Internet have been Scammed or about to be scammed. And funny enough,
we tend to look the other way, as if in doing so, it will just zap! What do you think?

Anyways, have you or any one reading this ever heard of PTR-Trading.com
I don’t know what to make of them. Recently, I paid and upgraded my account with them to Life time Platinum member ship. I requested for a Payout and they are being funny. I have quite a large cash balance with them. They are into e-mail and ptc stuffs. Will appreciate any ‘light’ thrown
    on this.

  30. Richard,

I would like if it is possible in the next meeting to have a discussion about how to make our product unique and desired. I know that there are hundreds of books, and magazines, and even free information regarding a certain subject. What are some ideas that make our product stand out?
    Thanks
    Petru

  31. Some niches I am thinking about are:
    Wedding
    Hair loss
    Snoring
    Baby care
    Piano
    Guitar
    Pet health
    Beagles dogs
    6 pack abs
    natural, organic products
    eco-green products

  32. Hi Petru,

Yes, I think we can definitely discuss that on the next call (or one of them, if we don’t have time this week).

Also your previous question about setting up mini-affiliate sites before creating your own product is a good idea, and I’m sure Eric will divulge a little more about his methods for that too :-)

  33. Hello Richard! – I am a Trainer, and I have re-written one of my regular courses so it can be useful on the Internet. It can STOP people from SMOKING, forever! – Or Equally, can be used to break ANY Bad Habit, hurting anyone.

I’m happy to SHARE the Methodology with someone who knows what to do, to get it successfully “out there” on the ‘net – and I’ll just take a 5% royalty on the gross income. I’m no internet “Guru” :)

I am also happy to submit Session One (of 5) for a “no-obligation” scrutiny by any interested party, together with the commentaries of some happy Graduates, to establish my bona fides. Len Stevens, Cape Town, South Africa. lenstevens@telkomsa.net

  34. something to do with fishing, say poles reels baits that sourt of thing.

  35. I think all the comments I just read have been fantastic. How can anyone be short of Niche Markets when there are such great minds out there, and this is only a handful. I personally like:
    Travelling Nurses
    Sunglasses
    Locksmiths
    Entrepreneurs
I could think of lots more……..
But I need to do lots of research on some of the others that I just heard about. Keep up the good work everyone, you’re all spot on. I thing each and everyone of you deserves a medal.

  36. Lynn Wertheimer says:

Just some ideas at this point.
Single women buying their first car.
    Training your cat
Bicycles – buying tips, safety equipment.
Raising a protegy in… golf, tennis — raising your child to become a star athlete (football, basketball or baseball) or in olympic events.
Choosing a coach for.. business or sports.
Learning to coach – or co – coach for children’s sports.
How to write a (historical) novel.

I was coached for a niche – had a site, someone took the domain name and linked it to another site – still have the ebook(s), and actually made some money, but far from return on investment (for the coaching costs & PPC) on using a pendulum and other tools for dowsing.

  37. Dave Kendrick says:

    Hey Richard and all

Richard – glad to see your new family is doing great. I have 2 Grandsons: 4 years and 10 months, so I know you will have your hands full for the next few years!

I think the problem that a lot of us face, and this certainly applies to me, is the fact that there are so many niches to choose from and most of them look to be profitable. It seems to be a big challenge to zero in and narrow things down to “the one” and confusion always seems to set in .. the information overload thing.

I have a personal leaning towards the travel niche but am open to anything that will make me money :-)

Hopefully things will become clearer in the weeks to come.

Thanks to you and Eric for putting this all together.

    Dave

  38. Melody Baker says:

I have some ideas that include hobbies.

    1) Create a system that helps all levels of IM’ers, no matter what level they are at.

    2) Make all Pre-Launches available to all levels.

  39. Jonathan Ledger says:

Can internet shopping be a niche? :-)

  40. I’m looking for fols who would love to travel and are afraid of traveling alone. I’ll also be selling an e-book on how to pack your suitcase to beat teh airline weight restrictions and still carry all the clothes you need.

  41. The market I have been beating my head against the wall for the past 3 years, and am ready to give up on, is “fathers without custody of their children.” I had planned a 5 volume library (I have 2 written and for sale) of how to work with your attorney to maximize your results in court, see your children, and use your attorney’s fees most efficiently. Actually, pretty similar to the idea that Ms. Brammell has re PI cases.
    However…
Apparently, fathers without custody don’t spend money. It’s a large market – we all know that – but it’s not a “hot” market. Either that, or my sales copy stinks.
Anyway – that’s the market I had been focused on, but am ready to walk away from, as it has returned nothing for my investment. I am currently looking at the golf or fitness niche, just to get cash flow coming. The low hanging fruit.

Thank you for everything you do for us fledgling marketers, Richard.
Enjoy the baby. I have twin daughters, and I would catch myself just watching them sleep for hours.

  42. Shirley Loflin says:

Wow,Richard, that is a tough question! I have downloaded gobs and gobs of ebooks.I would really like to deal with health and wellness products and jewelry.I would also like to know how to go about making a lot of money on ebay.

  43. Shirley Loflin says:

I forgot to mention earlier that I really need to learn to make a living on the internet because I have to stay home and take care of my husband who has alzeheimer’s so I can not leave home.

  44. I think the answer Richard is looking for is
none other then “Dog Training” hahahaha
just kidding. My wife and I created a diet/
lifestyle and have lost 130 lbs. combined,
I am sure people would love to hear about
this and would also pay for the information
which leads to my answer “information
products” are the best niche period. The
real question is how to get the information
in front of the right people.

    Take Care,
    Travis

  45. I think the weight loss and healthy living niches are huge, and even though there is a lot of competition, there will always be a spot left for someone to make a living.

I have just bought a new domain and am in the process of setting up a wordpress blog with it ( http://www.healthydietweightloss.com ), I will keep you posted how it is going!

  46. Hi Richard,
We have raised six children and are now answering questions regarding grandchildren and children of friends.

The blog comments are great. It’s so true. When raising children, there is always a surprise just around the corner.
We always thought that the parenting job ended when the last one finished school and got a job or got married. Not so.

Another niche market that is rapidly developing is caring for elderly parents. Many retired people have lost their retirement income, are faced with losing their home, cannot rely on Social Security alone and must find help. They naturally turn to their children. Are the children ready for the challenge? In most cases, no. Have you given the possibility any thought?

We have an internet business. Most of our customers are married women with families. Beverly Bass and Linda Joyce posted notes of interest to us. They may contact us at 928-204-1726 (Arizona).

Our best to you and your family.

  47. Hey there Richard. I am one of your many ‘readers’ that really don’t know where to strat on “Niche” finding. I have prchased your course “Niche Domination” so I am hoping all the info will be absorbed ito my brain. Early signs are good (grin).

Keep up the good and possitive work Richard.Tomas

PS I am sure you and Christina are and will be great parents. Good wishhes to you both

  48. Hey Richard,

I’ve had a few ideas for niches, which I thought I’d share with you. However I’m still unsure about how profitable they would be.

Firstly, I thought the obvious dog training niche would be a great one except for the massive amount of competiton. So I tried narrowing it down into a subniche to see how it would go.
I live at the beach in Australia and have always been fascinated by surfers who have taught their dogs to surfboard with them. So I looked into it this topic but quickly discovered there is very little competetion or keyword searches for teaching dogs how to surf.
It seems as though I may have gone from a massive subject like ‘dog training’ down to a smaller niche which doesn’t get enough searches, even though there are people out there in the real world actually doing it.

After hearing about how saturated the golf market is, I looked into a sport that I have played most of my life which is cricket.
To my surprise there is hardly any information products being sold in this field, despite the fact that this sport is played by hundreds of millions of people from across the world.
There is however an abundance of free information available relating to players, teams, history etc.
Just not enough competitors selling information products according to the competiton theory.

After that I looked at snowboarding and kitesurfing as potential niches and I’m still not sure if either of these would be profitable as there is so much free information available.

Is the amount of free information available for a particular niche, something we should be taking into consideration?

  49. Hi Richard,

Great to see all these posts with all the ideas from everyone!

Maybe I am going slightly off point here, but I believe that it isn’t the “niche” so much that is important, as the amount of “traffic” you can attract to that niche (ah yes, that old chestnut!).

We all know that you can have the best product in the world, but if you can’t get your message out there and ensure that as many people as possible know about it, then it really doesn’t matter what niche you choose.

As for health niche’s – how about “Depression” – now that is something that people would want to read about and need help with.

Keep up the good work – and best of success to everyone.

    Best wishes

    David Grahams

  50. C. Bender says:

    Hello Richard,

Congratulations on babt Adam. I must say it has been some time since I have had a little one to raise but it is now my turn at being a grandparent. My family grew by 3 immediately when my son got married, the wife and 2 step children, they then added a new baby 2 yrs later and are expecting another one in Januart. In August my daughter got married, Her husband and 2 more step children and she is expecting in February. Ahhh the instant blended family! Although I love all my grandchildren it is difficult to come into a child’s life as a granparent when they already have 2 sets of grandparents. We have had some difficulty with the adjustment. We have also had some very rewarding times. A possible niche could be related to grandparents and step-grandchildren. How to develope relationships with the children and the new son or daughter-in-law the has come into your life. We have certainly made our mistakes but have been able to overcome them. I just wish that I could have seen that type of conflict coming so that I would have been prepared with correct responses or reactions. Also, how would you create a domain name for that? You would need something simple and to the point. Articles on how to be a great step grand parent? I know that myself I have become so frustrated at times that I have searched the internet for answers and find little to no useful advice. Anyone willing to give me an idea for a domain name? I just can’t seem to get past that one point, I think if I had a domain name that I felt very comfortable with I think I could fly! LOL

On a sad note, I an also taking care of my elderly mother-in-law. She is currently in a nursing home for rehab but will be coming to my home for additional rehad until (I have my doubts) she is once again able to live on her own. I know many nursing homes try hard but just the small one she is in I see so many things that need to be cone for the patient that does not get done. So one niche could be “How to be a great patient advocate for your loved on confined in a nursing home”. Articles dealing with what questions to ask the doctors and care takers, questions for the Nursing home administrator. This is a huge market as we are all facing what I call the sandwich generation, those parents that are stuck in the middle of taking care of their aging parents and raising a family or just helping with the grandchildren. The things we have experienced is just frustrating and at times overwhelming. This could be a web page with some free information. well written article, and maybe some clickbank products until you could develope your own products or services. Even provide information on each state’s laws and regulations. I do believe there is a large market out there for these 2 ideas. SO PLEASE HELP! I am also ashamed to say that I have spent too much money on programs and ebooks that just do not give you a complete plan or program as promised but if a progtam comes along spouting that they have all the things needed such as how to build a website, how to get articles, how to place articles and where to place the google ads. How to use a Template for your site. How to upload the site…I coud go on and on but you get the picture…Just plain simple english. Step 1, Step 2, Step 3…

I guarantee that if I were one of the people blessed enough to be earning thousands of dollars a day online that I would be providing this type of service to newbies!

  51. Hi Richard

I am very new at Internet Marketing and therefore very confused about what niche is the best niche. So far I have worked out that it is best to stick with something that you know or something that you have an interest in, don’t try and do a niche that “nobody is doing so I should do it”. Something that I have been thinking about is stress, mainly because I have become so stressed out trying to work out which is the best niche for me. People have so much stress in their lives these days with money problems, health problems, you name it, we worry about it. We worry about our jobs, our children, our partners, our dog, our cat, getting old, looking old, even what to cook for dinner.

I am not sure if stress is the best niche but if it would help some people and put a smile on their face then it really would be priceless.

  52. To come back on your question;

    ‘What’s the best niche
    for Internet Marketing?’

In an earlier post I ‘talked’ about ‘RUNNING’

So I guess that ‘Running’ is one of my niches, I even have a little online Happy ‘Jogging Shoes Shop’. (I spontaniously created this shoe shop
to complement a little ‘Video-photosplash’ with senic – upcomming sun – photo’s I made during “Jogging on Gran Canaria”)

Although to be honest I wonder if people are very much inclined to buy their shoes online, Nevertheless I do have Asics Shoes myself and genually can reccomment them.

    All the Best,
To your Happy – Jogging – Inspiration,

  53. Hello Richard,
I have been playing around with trying to get together a site for the “Short Game of Golf” I have been toying about targeting the senior players. For some reason what I have read from many sources they all say the same thing. Do you or anybody have any ideas on how to target the baby boomer market.

  54. Mike Moffitt says:

    Greetings Ricard and Eric,

    Finding those niches appears the hardest part of this training. I am interested in pursuing the boomer market. Some preliminary niches I would like to consider are;
    1. How boomers can earn income online in retirement
    2. Boomer photographers
    3. Handicapped boomer photographers
    4. Unique Boomer Travel Gear

Also I see one of the posts is interested in Running. Barefoot running is a hot topic right now.

By the way, I’m a boomer myself and a “Rat Pack” fan. Probably a little old for you and Eric but pass on to Eric that a very popular old TV show – The Dean Martin show had Dean Martin drinking continuously during the course of his show. It looked like whiskey but in actuality Dean was a teetotaler. He was drinking Martinelli’s apple juice. I do too.

Thanks for you guidance so far. I looking forward to more specific information on uncovering those niches.

  55. Hi Richard,
I think this topic has really opened my eyes. I have been trying to make it on internet marketing for 2 years now, and have made little progress. I agree with Linda Joyce (Economodes)’s post that the internet poses overwhelming information to those who can easily put them into use. However for those of us who are technologically disadvantaged and non technically minded what is our hope? Do I detect a special niche…Ha..Ha.
Personally I am in the Baby Boomer age group and have just recently retired after 30years of active work, but I am not tired! I wish to concentrate on working at home. So I have this new blog on retirement tips which I am just developing with my limited computer skills.
The niche Parenting is an interesting one..I am a recent grandmother and I am enjoying the thrills and discomfort of raising a baby. In my country, when your daughter has a baby you take time off to go and stay with her and help her tend the baby for at least one month during which she would be taught the rudiment of looking after the infant especially if it is her first baby! Babies are bundles of joy but they have no definite sleeping and feeding hours!
While voting for Parenting as an excellent niche, personally I would target Baby Boomers and weight loss as good niches. …Don’t you think so?
    Caio. Pat.

  56. H Richard,
One very topical niche, rapidly becoming main stream is the `Credit Crunch` and the forthcoming World Wide recession.
I have spent a considearble amount of time researching this subject and have just uploaded a brand new website which links several artilces to the subject and some ways of ovecoming this problem.
It is too complicated to go into great detail but if anybody would like to have a look at the possibilites visit the site and feel free to ask any questions. http://www.thequalityinformationcentre.com
I would be inerested in any comments, suggestions or critique.

    Reg Warden.

  57. What a fascinating series of comments! Every one worth reading in its own right.

I have a couple of ideas for niches – motoring (driving skills especially) and using computers, but I do feel that there are either a lot more experienced people out there or there is little opportunity to sell anything.

Also being UK based myself, how would the driving one transpose into the USA, for example.

I think the predominant barrier is that most of the niches I am even remotely interested in are well over-subscribed. If that’s the case how do we develop a Unique Selling Point (USP) – and choose the right keywords if we want to use Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing?

    I’m rabbiting on – I’ll stop now.

Carry on parenting, Richard – I won’t say it gets easier, but it certainly changes as the little ones grow up. (It does help once baby sleeps through the nights though, believe me.)

    Lynda

  58. Richard,

My niche is the delivery of entertainment , primarily movies and TV shows,
to the approximately 50 million American adults whose hearing or sight impairments prevent them from enjoying most of the movies and TV shows produced before 1990.

A company I am working with has accumulated over 3000 movies and 3000 TV shows shorts, cartoons , serials, etc. from our past which were not closed captioned for the hearing impaired or have a separate audio track (audio described) for the sight impaired.

The goal is to be the leader in this marketplace by getting these shows close captioned and audio described and doing a cross media marketing of the content on TV, internet, print, and even radio. We can also offer the content for sale at retail or the through other affiliated marketing sources.

We can provide satellite delivery of these shows to TV stations, cable companies, radio stations, and including internet streaming if practical and the advertising revenue from these stations will be one stream of income. We would also like to develop a niche advertising market of those who sell to the hearing and sight impaired to be advertisers to this niche market on the TV stations, cable stations, radio stations and streaming on the internet .

With the availability shows and satellite and internet delivery systems already in place the next steps are

    1. The actual close captioning and audio description of the shows.
    2. The development of the advertising base who would benefit from this niche market .
    3. The marketing of the shows to cable systems and TV stations , with primary emphasis on all the new multicast TV stations that will be opening up.

Obviously we could use income from 2 and 3 above to pay costs of 1.

It is a big underserved market and we already have the content and the delivery system inplace. The completion of the three items above would give us a dominating presence in this market that would be hard to duplicate.

In addition this is a worthy project that will benefit millions of sight and hearing impaired people who are presently excluded from enjoyment of much of the programming that you and I can enjoy.

If you or your associates wish to join me in a mission that would benefit millions while carving out a successful and needed niche market, please drop me an email. Feel free to pass this on to others who are looking to be involved in a win/win business project which also has significant social benefits.

    Ron Hebert

  59. I was just writing a article on how to find a profitable niche when I remembered a email from you on the topic. I finally read it, and ended up here. I have three suggestion for people targeting a niche.

    1) Focus on that niche until you dominate it (unless its hopeless, then give up and try another one. There is no use in beating a dead horse.

    2) Create content related to your niche daily

    3) Create backlinks to your website every single day.

    Good luck everybody,

    Rob

  60. Hey I don’t get it. I have so many subjects I have had trouble picking just one to work on. So I compromised and I am currently failing on seven or eight subjects and succeeding on one.

I believe the problem many people have is they want to make the Mona Lisa with their first painting.

It is really easy to determine if there is money in a niche. Start building… I wrote an article on Niche Picking this afternoon.

    Thanks Rick
