You should be careful because many courses online are short eBooks or video tutorials that cover only vague aspects of marketing.

A good internet marketing course should contain much more in-depth material with actual step by step instructions for you to put into action.

One of the best home study courses I’ve purchased was Mike Filsaime’s Butterfly Marketing course.

I made my very first sale from my own website after reading one of Mike’s earlier products so even though it was an expensive home study course, I knew that the content he produced was valuable and reliable.

Typically, such courses are more expensive than the $47-$97 ebooks that you’ll find on sites like Clickbank, but if you go through and apply the materials, the income potential can be much greater.

After using the techniques in the Butterfly Marketing course, I had my first $1,000 day and a $5,000 week.

BUT … if you are just starting out, you may not want to spend $1,500+ on a course.

Home Study Course?

For most beginners a full blown internet marketing home study course may not be the right option for you. When I purchased my first high-ticket course I already had a good foundation in internet marketing and I knew I could use the course to help grow my business.

So if you don’t have an existing business yet, I wouldn’t recommend you spend $1,000 or more on a course as instead of making you money, it may actually cause you to become overwhelmed with the large amount of information on a topic that you’re not very familiar with.

Then Make Sure You… Get the basics down first!

It is possible to start your own business online with minimal cost - just a domain and hosting - so there is no need to spend thousands of dollars when you are starting, especially with the wealth of free information that’s readily available online.

To start out I would suggest you get:

1) A domain name - I started out with a generic domain name that I could use to promote lots of affiliate products.

2) A hosting account - This is a MUST in my opinion, even if you only promote affiliate products.  (You should have no excuse for not getting hosting if you’re serious about having success online)

3) Something to sell - this can be an affiliate product, a resale rights product, or even your own product.

Then it’s just a case of getting some quick website traffic to either your sales page or squeeze page so you can start making sales and building a list.

With the internet getting increasingly popular as a way to generate extra income, more and more people are coming out with new internet marketing courses designed to help you get started.

But with so much information out there, how can you know which is the best information? Or more importantly, how can you be sure that the information is even accurate?

Here are a few tips to help you stay on the right path.

Make Sure The Author Is An Established Marketer

Step #1 - The first thing you want to do is find out as much as you can about the author. An established marketer should have quite a lot of references in Google, and a search on his/her name should result in at least one of their sites.

If you find no reference of them online, then this can be an indication that they don’t really know all that much about internet marketing.

Unfortunately, it’s surprising how many people you see selling internet marketing courses that promise to make you thousands of extra dollars a month, even though the author is not making that amount.

Find Honest Reviews Of Internet Marketing Courses

Step #2 - Next you should look for reviews on the course that interests you. Again, Google should be your best friend for research. If you can’t find any reviews, or you find negative reviews, then it might be best to stay away from that particular course.

One thing you should be aware of is that a common tactic for affiliate marketers is to post “reviews” of the product, along with their affiliate link at the end, hoping that you will click and buy from them.

If a review looks a little too good, and has a blatant affiliate link posted multiple times, then this may not be an honest review.

If you go to reliable internet marketing forums, you will usually find genuine reviews from real users.

Compare Courses On Price And Value

Step #3 - You should also consider the price, and whether or not it offers good value for money. The truth is, internet marketing is such a competitive field that many good marketers will give away excellent information and internet marketing courses for free.

The reason they do this is that they know their stuff works, and they are willing to lose some money initially. Once you see results with their products, you’ll trust them and be much more receptive to future purchases from them.

Sometimes the best information can be found in free internet marketing courses and the main benefit is that you don’t risk any money up front.
