I was just writing a article on how to find a profitable niche when I remembered a email from you on the topic. I finally read it, and ended up here. I have three suggestion for people targeting a niche.

1) Focus on that niche until you dominate it (unless its hopeless, then give up and try another one. There is no use in beating a dead horse.

2) Create content related to your niche daily

3) Create backlinks to your website every single day.

Good luck everybody,

Richard,

My niche is the delivery of entertainment , primarily movies and TV shows,
to the approximately 50 million American adults whose hearing or sight impairments prevent them from enjoying most of the movies and TV shows produced before 1990.

A company I am working with has accumulated over 3000 movies and 3000 TV shows shorts, cartoons , serials, etc. from our past which were not closed captioned for the hearing impaired or have a separate audio track (audio described) for the sight impaired.

The goal is to be the leader in this marketplace by getting these shows close captioned and audio described and doing a cross media marketing of the content on TV, internet, print, and even radio. We can also offer the content for sale at retail or the through other affiliated marketing sources.

We can provide satellite delivery of these shows to TV stations, cable companies, radio stations, and including internet streaming if practical and the advertising revenue from these stations will be one stream of income. We would also like to develop a niche advertising market of those who sell to the hearing and sight impaired to be advertisers to this niche market on the TV stations, cable stations, radio stations and streaming on the internet .

With the availability shows and satellite and internet delivery systems already in place the next steps are

1. The actual close captioning and audio description of the shows.
2. The development of the advertising base who would benefit from this niche market .
3. The marketing of the shows to cable systems and TV stations , with primary emphasis on all the new multicast TV stations that will be opening up.

Obviously we could use income from 2 and 3 above to pay costs of 1.

It is a big underserved market and we already have the content and the delivery system inplace. The completion of the three items above would give us a dominating presence in this market that would be hard to duplicate.

In addition this is a worthy project that will benefit millions of sight and hearing impaired people who are presently excluded from enjoyment of much of the programming that you and I can enjoy.

If you or your associates wish to join me in a mission that would benefit millions while carving out a successful and needed niche market, please drop me an email. Feel free to pass this on to others who are looking to be involved in a win/win business project which also has significant social benefits.

What a fascinating series of comments! Every one worth reading in its own right.

I have a couple of ideas for niches - motoring (driving skills especially) and using computers, but I do feel that there are either a lot more experienced people out there or there is little opportunity to sell anything.

Also being UK based myself, how would the driving one transpose into the USA, for example.

I think the predominant barrier is that most of the niches I am even remotely interested in are well over-subscribed. If that's the case how do we develop a Unique Selling Point (USP) - and choose the right keywords if we want to use Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing?

I'm rabbiting on - I'll stop now.

Carry on parenting, Richard - I won't say it gets easier, but it certainly changes as the little ones grow up. (It does help once baby sleeps through the nights though, believe me.)

H Richard,
One very topical niche, rapidly becoming main stream is the `Credit Crunch` and the forthcoming World Wide recession.
I have spent a considearble amount of time researching this subject and have just uploaded a brand new website which links several artilces to the subject and some ways of ovecoming this problem.
It is too complicated to go into great detail but if anybody would like to have a look at the possibilites visit the site and feel free to ask any questions. www.thequalityinformationcentre.com
I would be inerested in any comments, suggestions or critique.

Hi Richard,
I think this topic has really opened my eyes. I have been trying to make it on internet marketing for 2 years now, and have made little progress. I agree with Linda Joyce (Economodes)'s post that the internet poses overwhelming information to those who can easily put them into use. However for those of us who are technologically disadvantaged and non technically minded what is our hope? Do I detect a special niche...Ha..Ha.
Personally I am in the Baby Boomer age group and have just recently retired after 30years of active work, but I am not tired! I wish to concentrate on working at home. So I have this new blog on retirement tips which I am just developing with my limited computer skills.
The niche Parenting is an interesting one..I am a recent grandmother and I am enjoying the thrills and discomfort of raising a baby. In my country, when your daughter has a baby you take time off to go and stay with her and help her tend the baby for at least one month during which she would be taught the rudiment of looking after the infant especially if it is her first baby! Babies are bundles of joy but they have no definite sleeping and feeding hours!
While voting for Parenting as an excellent niche, personally I would target Baby Boomers and weight loss as good niches. ...Don't you think so?

Greetings Ricard and Eric,

Finding those niches appears the hardest part of this training. I am interested in pursuing the boomer market. Some preliminary niches I would like to consider are;
1. How boomers can earn income online in retirement
2. Boomer photographers
3. Handicapped boomer photographers
4. Unique Boomer Travel Gear

Also I see one of the posts is interested in Running. Barefoot running is a hot topic right now.

By the way, I'm a boomer myself and a "Rat Pack" fan. Probably a little old for you and Eric but pass on to Eric that a very popular old TV show - The Dean Martin show had Dean Martin drinking continuously during the course of his show. It looked like whiskey but in actuality Dean was a teetotaler. He was drinking Martinelli's apple juice. I do too.

Thanks for you guidance so far. I looking forward to more specific information on uncovering those niches.

Hello Richard,
I have been playing around with trying to get together a site for the "Short Game of Golf" I have been toying about targeting the senior players. For some reason what I have read from many sources they all say the same thing. Do you or anybody have any ideas on how to target the baby boomer market.

To come back on your question;

   'What's the best niche
    for Internet Marketing?'

In an earlier post I 'talked' about 'RUNNING'

So I guess that 'Running' is one of my niches, I even have a little online Happy 'Jogging Shoes Shop'. (I spontaniously created this shoe shop
to complement a little 'Video-photosplash' with senic - upcomming sun - photo's I made during "Jogging on Gran Canaria")

Although to be honest I wonder if people are very much inclined to buy their shoes online, Nevertheless I do have Asics Shoes myself and genually can reccomment them.

All the Best,
To your Happy - Jogging - Inspiration,

Hi Richard

I am very new at Internet Marketing and therefore very confused about what niche is the best niche. So far I have worked out that it is best to stick with something that you know or something that you have an interest in, don't try and do a niche that "nobody is doing so I should do it". Something that I have been thinking about is stress, mainly because I have become so stressed out trying to work out which is the best niche for me. People have so much stress in their lives these days with money problems, health problems, you name it, we worry about it. We worry about our jobs, our children, our partners, our dog, our cat, getting old, looking old, even what to cook for dinner.

I am not sure if stress is the best niche but if it would help some people and put a smile on their face then it really would be priceless.

Hello Richard,

Congratulations on babt Adam. I must say it has been some time since I have had a little one to raise but it is now my turn at being a grandparent. My family grew by 3 immediately when my son got married, the wife and 2 step children, they then added a new baby 2 yrs later and are expecting another one in Januart. In August my daughter got married, Her husband and 2 more step children and she is expecting in February. Ahhh the instant blended family! Although I love all my grandchildren it is difficult to come into a child's life as a granparent when they already have 2 sets of grandparents. We have had some difficulty with the adjustment. We have also had some very rewarding times. A possible niche could be related to grandparents and step-grandchildren. How to develope relationships with the children and the new son or daughter-in-law the has come into your life. We have certainly made our mistakes but have been able to overcome them. I just wish that I could have seen that type of conflict coming so that I would have been prepared with correct responses or reactions. Also, how would you create a domain name for that? You would need something simple and to the point. Articles on how to be a great step grand parent? I know that myself I have become so frustrated at times that I have searched the internet for answers and find little to no useful advice. Anyone willing to give me an idea for a domain name? I just can't seem to get past that one point, I think if I had a domain name that I felt very comfortable with I think I could fly! LOL

On a sad note, I an also taking care of my elderly mother-in-law. She is currently in a nursing home for rehab but will be coming to my home for additional rehad until (I have my doubts) she is once again able to live on her own. I know many nursing homes try hard but just the small one she is in I see so many things that need to be cone for the patient that does not get done. So one niche could be "How to be a great patient advocate for your loved on confined in a nursing home". Articles dealing with what questions to ask the doctors and care takers, questions for the Nursing home administrator. This is a huge market as we are all facing what I call the sandwich generation, those parents that are stuck in the middle of taking care of their aging parents and raising a family or just helping with the grandchildren. The things we have experienced is just frustrating and at times overwhelming. This could be a web page with some free information. well written article, and maybe some clickbank products until you could develope your own products or services. Even provide information on each state's laws and regulations. I do believe there is a large market out there for these 2 ideas. SO PLEASE HELP! I am also ashamed to say that I have spent too much money on programs and ebooks that just do not give you a complete plan or program as promised but if a progtam comes along spouting that they have all the things needed such as how to build a website, how to get articles, how to place articles and where to place the google ads. How to use a Template for your site. How to upload the site...I coud go on and on but you get the picture...Just plain simple english. Step 1, Step 2, Step 3...

I guarantee that if I were one of the people blessed enough to be earning thousands of dollars a day online that I would be providing this type of service to newbies!
